John T Kenney

British (16 May 1911 – 1972)

John Theodore Eardley Kenney was a 20th Century English sporting artist and illustrator who worked on a number of Reverend Wilbert Awdry's The Railway Series, Thomas the Tank Engine books from 1957 to 1962. The War interrupted John's career as a commercial artist, he did however make a number of drawings of the war and these are now housed in the British Royal Army Museum. John was also the teacher and mentor of the equestrian artist Neil Cawthorne.

In addition to his work being exhibited in the London galleries, John Kenney's work was exhibited by Abercrombie and Fitch in New York and Chicago. Today, John Kenney's paintings have become highly sought after, commanding high prices when they do come up for sale.
