James Downie was born in Manchester, England in 1949. Downie worked in the building industry until 1989 at which point he began painting full time. James Downie now lives in Cornwall where he paints from his studio. James Downie's work has been compared to L S Lowry as can be seen in some of his 20th Century northern scenes.
